So you have finally made a decision of owning a pet. The most
recommended one is a dog or a cat because they are relatively low
maintenance. In addition, they are usually affectionate to their owner
making them the best companion to have in your house. A cat is usually
the one most preferred because of their cuteness and charming
appearance. If you are really going a buy a cat the following are some
of the things to consider:
- Do you want a quiet or a chatty cat?
There are breeds of cats that are specially known to be chatty as if
it is replying to you when you talk to them. They are also very
vocal in demanding for their needs. They meow when they are hungry,
they meow when they see other cats, they meow when they want
attention. Male cats of any breed are known to be chattier than the
female cats. If you want a cat that is chatty, the most recommended
one are the Siamese cats since they have the largest vocal chords.
However, if you prefer peace and quiet, then the American Curl breed
of cat is best for you. There are many other selections of cat
breeds depending on how vocal they are.

- Do you want a long hair or a short hair cat?
Long hair cats are generally elegant in appearance. Furthermore,
they are usually the ones entered in cat shows. However, long hair
cats needs constant grooming and they usually leaves a lot of hair
strands in places they stay on. You may need to brush them at least
twice or thrice a week to make the hair groomed. Therefore, the
longer the hair, the more work you have to put into them.
- Another thing to consider is the furniture of your home. Cats love
scratching and will usually do it in the furniture. You can have
their nails trimmed regularly to prevent the destruction of your
home furniture or you can have a scratch post that is more appealing
for your cat. You may also use catnip on the scratch post to train
the cat.
- Is your lifestyle suitable to having a pet?
Pet such as cats are usually one of the most attention-seeking pets.
They will require constant care and loving from the owner for them
to be affectionate. It is good if after a long day of work, you
spend some time with your pet to release ease your daily stress and
to give them some caring. However, if your work requires you to be
always away that is usually from several days or weeks, you must
ensure that there is someone taking care of your cat, otherwise it
will runaway.
